Workshop on Capacity Building of
SCAEF : Preparation of Strategic
Planning Document
1. Introduction and Purpose of
the Workshop
With the purpose of
identifying major components of
the strategic cum operational
plan to help promote and develop
SCAEF and its member firms
nationally and internationally
through participatory and
collaborative approach, a one
day Workshop on Capacity
Building of Consulting Industry
in Nepal was organized jointly
by the SCAEF and Construction
Industry Training Center (CITC)
on 19th June 2006 in hotel
Annapurna, Kathmandu. The
workshop cost was made available
by Construction Industry
Development Implementation
Committee.
The outcome of the workshop was
to prepare SCAEF document
(Strategic cum Operational Plan)
for organizational development
of SCAEF and consulting member
firms.

Workshop Part
The workshop was conducted in
participatory and friendly
environment. The detail process
of the workshop was as follows.
Preparation:

Workshop
preparation with detailed
activities with SCAEF
executives and
representation of non-SCAEF
firms.

One day
workshop organized on 19th
June, 2006 from 8am to 6pm.
First Part of the Workshop:
-
The
workshop started with
opening session, the chief
guest of the session was Mr.
Madan Gopal Makhu, Joint
Secretary, Ministry of
Physical Planning and Works.

The
president of SCAEF, Mr. K
Kunwar presented present
status of consulting
industry in Nepal/SCAEF
-
Global/Regional: Present and
Future Scenario for
consulting industry was
presented by Mr. B L
Naychwon, Past President of
SCAEF.
-
A brief
presentation on how to
prepare the strategic
document and derive the
future direction/development
of Nepalese consulting
industry and SCAEF’s
Development Vision for Nepal
was presented and
facilitated by Mr. Lal
Krishna K.C.
Second Part of the Workshop:
The second part of the workshop
was conducted in a participatory
approach. All the members
present were encouraged to take
part actively in identifying the
issues and practical solution of
organizational requirements. The
details activities were as
follow;

3. Workshop Conclusion and
Documentation Part
The group discussion on
selected issues was conducted
efficiently. It was done in two
groups. The participants
enthusiastically participated in
the group discussions and used
the opportunity to get together
and discuss in identifying
issue-wise problems (policy and
legal, business opportunity,
admin and management, human
resources development/capacity
building, public relation and
communication, institutional
development, and risks &
liabilities) and their probable
solution and strategies to
develop SCAEF and its future
plan to support consultancy
industry development in as a
whole.
SCAEF’s members’ ideas and
suggestions, as well as the
outcomes of the discussion will
be compiled, analyzed and
reported in detail in the
document format. The tentative
content of the document would be
background context, SWOT
Analysis, strategic elements –
SCAEF’s development vision,
mission, goal, objective,
strategy, program/activities,
and outcome followed by
operational cum implementation
plan with tentative resources
requirement; mainly
organization, time and cost
line, including monitoring and
evaluation section. |
